FAQ

The following are the current GatorLink account eligibility and expiration practices for most GatorLink accounts. Eligibility for a GatorLink account is determined by a person's relationship to the University as recorded in the UF Directory.

Your GatorLink username and password allow you to signon to many web services and to access the on-campus wireless or walkup network. Eligibility for a GatorLink username and password to authenticate to web services and for network access is different than eligibility for other central services, such as a mailbox, dialup or web space. Both network access and service eligibility are addressed below.

Students

If you are a student applicant, you are eligible for a GatorLink username and password, but not eligible for a mailbox or other central services. An applicant that has been admitted, registered student or non-registered active (summer term) student is eligible for a mailbox and other central services in addition to the basic network access account. Once you graduate, your account and services will be expired in approximately one academic term. We recommend that you forward your email to a new email service as soon as possible after graduation, and publicize that email address. Should you again need the account in order to pay loans or apply to the University, you will be eligible for a network access account only (unless you are readmitted), not for email or other central services.

Faculty

Faculty, Courtesy faculty, Post-Docs and Emeritus faculty are eligible for the GatorLink account and for the mailbox and other central services. Visiting faculty are also eligible if their department records them as “Departmental Associate” in the UF Directory. Retired faculty are no longer eligible for the account, mailbox or other central services. Once you retire, your account and services will be expired in approximately one month. We recommend that you forward your email to a new email service as soon as possible after retirement and begin to publicize that address.

Staff

Teams, USPS, OPS staff and UF Executives are eligible for the GatorLink account and for the mailbox and other central services. Retired staff are no longer eligible for the account, mailbox or other central services. Once you retire, your account and services will be expired in approximately one month. We recommend that you forward your email to a new email service as soon as possible after retirement and begin to publicize that address.

UF Affiliates

Direct Support staff, Athletic Association, AEF Base, Foundation, Shands staff, Vendors, Campus Residents and Library Patrons are eligible for a GatorLink username and password, but not eligible for a mailbox or other central services. We recommend you forward your GatorLink email address to your business email address.

A number of other relationships are recorded in the UF Directory for persons not eligible for either the account or services. They include Research Participants, Shands Patients, Volunteers, Guest, Alumni.

Any UF department can record a relationship in the UF Directory of “Departmental Associate” for a person who is in a long-term, active role with the department and who needs network access or services.

For a list of the specific UF Directory relationships that qualify for GatorLink network accese, please see Who Gets an Account?. The appropriate relationship is supplied by a person's Identity Management Coordinator. For GatorLink customer service, please contact the UF Computing Help Desk.
