to connect to the GatorLink server...
  1. Open the WS-FTP Application
  2. Enter a profile name. (ie "GatorLink")
  3. Enter plaza.ufl.edu in the "Host Name/Address" box.
  4. Select UNIX (standard) or Automatic detect in the "Host Type" box.
  5. Enter your GatorLink ID in the "User ID" box. (it is not necessary to include /i)
  6. Enter your GatorLink password in the "Password" box.
  7. Leave the "Account" and "Comment" boxes empty.
  8. Press "OK"
  9. You may be prompted for your password again.
to transfer files...

The file structure of your computer is represented by the left window, while your file structure on the GatorLink server appears in the right window.

  1. You can locate the file(s) on your computer that you wish to transfer in the left WS-FTP window and click on it to select it.
  2. Select the appropriate transfer mode ASCII, Binary, or Auto.*
  3. Press the transfer button. The transfer buttons are located in the middle of the window. The button that points left [ <-- ] transfers (downloads) files to your computer. The button that points right [ --> ] transfers (uploads) files to the remote computer.
  4. When done transferring files select the "Close" button and the "Exit" button to quit.

*There are three options on the Main menu, ASCII, Binary, and Auto. If you want to transfer a plain-text or .html file (not word-processed), then use the ASCII option. If you want to transfer a program file, a formatted file (created by a word processor) or an image file (.jpg or .gif files), use the Binary option. If you are unsure, use the Auto option. The Auto option should work most of the time.
